Moving Lights

What is "Moving Lights" residency program?

It refers not only to the Northern Lights that occurs during this special time of the year. It also refers to the changing seasons with more and less daylight. Light is moving and changing, from night to day, from summer to winter. Light changes in colours and in intensity, from a light glow to a shining bright light. We can also switch light on and off with one touch. Light is always moving, light leaves traces...

So during this special time we are looking for artists who work with light or who use light, natural light and of course electric light, as the main topic of their work. Or maybe you are just inspired by the theme and want to break through the darkness and bring us your light.

It does not matter if you create lightsculptures or if you are a (light-painting-) photographer, dancer, singer, musician, poet, or installation artist. Whether you want to move light or the light moves you, we are curious about your application.

Listhús in Ólafsfjörður offers a special countryside and environment to create such great and unique possibilities to work, all nearby, e.g. beach, harbour, factories, lonely valleys and lakes.

If you ever want to work with light, do it in Ólafsfjörður now, or never...

DINNER “Ljósanótt”

Moving Lights Dinner by Emily Sides

November 24th, 2018 — Kaffe Klara (Strandgata 2)

Emily Sides (b. 1995) is an American artist whose works focus on self-realization, self-actualization, and self-awareness through the use of non-traditional materials such as noble gases, various acrylics, and mirrors. By focusing on these societal aspects, Emily’s work attempts to break the fourth wall between the audience and the artist, standing between the knowledge of what her piece is and their conjecture of what it could be. Emily also has an interest in how contemporary technology can affect the construction of her works, leading to the creation of various projects using CNC routers, laser cutting, and noble gases. Emily earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Studio Art with a concentration in Sculpture in 2018 from the University of North Texas. Emily is currently working on a neon installation piece at The Listhus Artspace Residency in Ólafsfjörður— this installation delves into the idea of navigation, both physically and metaphorically through the word, Ratljost. Ratljost is an aged Icelandic word that is seen uncommon in the modern era. By definition, Ratljost means — enough light to see (navigate) the way.

Emily intends to showcase this work in various locations throughout Ólafsfjörður during the months of November- December 2018 — both indoor and outdoor.
